Game Recap

Hopkins defeated Edina in Lake Conference play 6-1 on Monday night. The Royals bats were idle until the 4th inning when Natalie DenHartog led off with a single. DenHartog stole second and scored on Parker Stoddard’s single up the middle. The Royals continued to roll in the 5th when with 2 outs they put together 5 consecutive base hits to score 3 runs. In the top of the 7th, Hannah Kleist led off with a single and stole her second base of the day. Evelyn Barczak singled and Natalie DenHartog tripled scoring 2 runs. DenHartog scored on a Makenzie Merritt infield grounder. Merritt recorded her 4th win of the season backed by strong Hopkins defensive plays. Hopkins plays non-conference games vs Irondale and Maple Grove later this week.

Game Recap

An overcast Thursday afternoon was illuminated by offensive fireworks as the Hopkins Royals and Wayzata Trojans faced off in their Lake Conference opener. The Royals potent offensive attack put up 17 runs on their way to a 17-9 victory. The Hopkins hitters distributed 21 hits throughout the lineup. Cassy Huiras and Makenzie Merritt each had individual home runs. Four Royals hitters had doubles: Hannah Kleist, Evelyn Barczak, Parker Stoddard, and Natalie DenHartog. DenHartog also drove in 5 of the Royals runs. Makenzie Merritt struck out 6 Trojans on the way to her 3rd win of the season. Hopkins moves to 3-0 on the year and faces Lake Conference foe Edina at Pamela Park on Monday.

Game Recap

After clearing 4″ of snow off the Hopkins field, the Royals defeated the Orono Spartans 7-1 on Tuesday afternoon. Senior Makenzie Merritt held the Spartans to 1 run on 5 hits while striking out 9. Merritt also went 2 for 2 at the plate with an RBI. The rest of the Royals attack was sparked by Hannah Kleist and Natalie DenHartog. Kleist had 3 hits, scored 2 runs and had 2 stolen bases. DenHartog added the power with a booming home run and a double. The Royals shortstop accounted for 6 runs, scoring 2 and driving in 4.
Evelyn Barczak displayed some great glove work in the 5th catching two Orono balls in the gap to stop an inning. The Royals move to 2-0 on the season and open conference play at Wayzata on Thursday.

Game Recap

Hopkins opened its season on Thursday with a 6-1 win over the Waconia Wildcats. The game was played at Hopkins. The Royals offensive attack began in the bottom of the first inning with Parker Stoddard doubling in two runs. Stoddard scored in the next at bat as Maci Shatirishvili doubled and put the Royals up 3-0. The Royals bats stayed hot with Makenzie Merritt hitting her first home run of the season, bringing home Natalie DenHartog who had a perfect night at the plate going 3 for 3 with two doubles and a triple. Evelyn Barczak added a run and two hits to the Hopkins effort. Merritt earned her first win of the season from the mound. The senior allowed 1 run, on 3 hits, while striking out 8 Wildcat hitters. Hopkins plays its next game Tuesday night against Orono.

Junior Varsity took a 16-14 win against Wayzata.

Out of 34 Varsity competitors, Jordan Ashby placed 1st with 65.8 points and Maggie Cleary placed 7th with 61.5 points.
