Football senior linebacker Boye Mafe is the Mighty Silver & Royal Blue athlete of the week. Boye is not only a future D1 defensive player, he also is the kickoff specialist. Last Friday night was homecoming, and the Royals fell behind Edina 14-0 at halftime. The Royals stormed back in the second half to take a 21-14 lead. Boye had 3 tackles on kickoffs. Yes, the kicker, made 3 tackles. However, only 1 play stands out as the play of the game for Mafe. Edina was driving in Hopkins territory, attempting to tie the game with less than 2 minutes remaining. That’s when Mafe found the Edina QB scrambling out of the pocket. Boye got his long arms on him for a strip sack fumble, that he ended up falling on to clinch the homecoming victory for the Royals!
It’s game day, what’s on your playlist to get you pumped up?
let me look… (pulls out his phone) … Kanye West
What athlete do you admire the most?
I would say Kevin Garnett because he is a work horse, and on the court he is a mean son of a gun, but off the court he is the nicest guy you can meet. I can emulate that in a sense.
What is your greatest sports accomplishment so far?
Strip sack fumble recovery to win the homecoming football game my senior year.
Do you have any superstitions?
I don’t tie my shoes. I don’t tie my cleats or basketball shoes up until the moment the game is about to start.
If you had to get stuck in an elevator with one teammate, who would it be?
Bennett Van Dellen. He would probably figure out a way to get out of there.
What do you hope to be doing 7 years from now?
Graduated from college, pursuing a job in whatever I decide to major in.
If you could have one super power, what would it be?
Control time. It would be great to go back and redo some things, and enjoy moments, reach nirvana. Time is something we can’t get back.
