20/20/20 is a non-profit organization that helps fund raise mainly for people who can not see. This goes towards their cataract surgery (a surgery that will improve vision). Meets in Career Center.

Ceramics Club

Purpose: To provide an opportunity for students to try ceramics even if they may not have room in their schedule to take the course. Students can also participate to catch up on their work if they are behind in class.

Chamber Orchestra

Purpose: A  high level, small auditioned ensemble for 10th-12th graders orchestra students. Students rehearse music and perform at concerts and within the community.

DECA (an association of marketing students)

Purpose: DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.  It does this through it competitive events series.  For more information on events visit the National DECA site. Meets in W230 and S130

Debate

Purpose: Debate is a competitive and fun academic activity focused on developing and rebutting intelligent arguments in a structured setting. The style of debate that we predominantly participate in at Hopkins is called Lincoln-Douglas (LD). LD debate evaluates important issues such as the pros and cons of different international relations policies or more broad philosophical/political questions like the resolution (debate topic) that all novices (first year debaters) will debate: Civil disobedience in a democracy is morally justified. Meeting in Room W 126-127.

Envirothon

Purpose: Compete with other schools in national, state, and local Envirothon events. The Envirothon is an academic based competition that is oriented around the environmental sciences. Students join a team of 5 and compete in competitions about aquatics, forestry, soils, wildlife, and current events in environmental sciences. Meets in S246.

Hopkins Ping Pong Club

Kiva U Club

Purpose: Kiva is an international nonprofit organization that works to alleviate poverty through loans to entrepreneurs all around the world. Hopkins would be a Kiva U “team” that would not only loan on behalf of the school money that is fund-raised but allows students, teachers, parents, and others to loan individually on behalf of the school club. Meets in W215

Mountain Bike Team

The mountain biking team serves both beginning and experienced bikers. Introducing new participants to mountain biking and supporting returning riders to succeed at the highest levels are vital parts of the program. Each rider will be exposed to the dedication, planning, teamwork, camaraderie, commitment, fun, and hard work that makes the sport unique. Meets by water tower behind the high school.

One Step At A Time

Operation Smile

The HHS Operation Smile Club is a student association of the national Operation Smile Organization. The national organization exists to provide medical volunteers who travel all over the world providing life changing surgical repair to children with cleft lips and palates.  Repair of cleft lips and palates not only affects a child’s appearance but also their ability to eat, talk, breath and all other oral aspects of life.

The HHS Operation Smile Club works to raise money and awareness of the need. Each operation provided by the national organization costs $250.  An additional investment of $500 supports their sustainability programs which empower partnering countries to treat more children on their own.

The club has held bake sales and book sales and has plans for many more creative fundraising adventures. Meets in the Career Center before school.

Project Focus

Purpose: Activities to address homelessness and hunger in the community. Reflections Magazine

The Thirst Project
